Lady Patriots Cruise to Second Consecutive NCCAA National Title

The Lady Patriots strong showing at the NCCAA National Championship Tournament proved to be enough to bring home their second consecutive National Title as they defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University in Mobile, Alabama, on Thursday afternoon.
DBU swept the Sailfish in convincing fashion as they cruised to a 5-0 victory. The Lady Patriots jumped to an early lead on PBA as they won each of the three doubles matches 8-0, 8-1, and 8-1 before the first two individuals matches including Senior Jeanelle Stines and Sophomore Hannah Innes each ended in wins for DBU.
The Lady Patriots received numerous NCCAA All-American honors as they complete their successful season. Olian and Innes were named NCCAA First Team All-American Individuals while Atkins was named to the Second Team. The doubles teams of Holmes and Innes, and Stines and Olian received NCCAA All-American Doubles Team. Head Coach Jennifer Curran was also recognized as NCCAA Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year as she led the Lady Patriots to their successful season.
Leading up to their championship win over Palm Beach Atlantic, the Lady Patriots defeated King College (5-0), Indiana Wesleyan University (5-1), and Olivet Nazarene University (5-0) in preliminary round play only dropping one match the entire tournament.
“I am so proud of the girls! They played with so much poise and focus all week. Each girl contributed to the team’s victory. Not very many teams in the country get to end their season with a win, and it is a great feeling. It is truly a great accomplishment to win the NCCAA National Title in two consecutive years,” Head Coach Jennifer Curran said.
The Lady Patriots end their historic season with an overall record of 17-9, ending with five straight victories.
