Patriot Golfer Bennett Smith Named All-America Scholar

Dallas Baptist Patriot Golfer Bennett Smith was recently selected as a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar. The Golf Coaches Association of America selects a total of 119 players from Divisions I, II and the NAIA for the honor, with a total of 55 honorees being selected for Division II.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 78.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Smith, a senior from Orlando, Florida, ended the season with a 74.23 stroke-average over 11 different tournaments. He recorded five top ten finishes during the 2009-2010 season, placing third in the NCCAA Championship, fourth at the Charles Coody West Texas International, and sixth at the Midwestern State Invitational. His season low round of 66 came in the second round at Midwestern State.
Smith was an All-Heartland Conference First Team selection this past season, was selected as the recipient of the Patriots’ Spiritual Award for his leadership, and was also chosen as DBU's Male Athlete of the Year.
