Sam Stewart

Sam Stewart is in his first season as the Head Bass Fishing Coach at DBU.  A Dallas native raised in the Park Cities, Stewart brings over a decade of passion and expertise in tournament Bass Fishing.

From a young age, Stewart's love for bass fishing was ignited by weekends spent with his grandfather exploring local lakes and ponds around Dallas. By age 11, he was fishing in Jr. Bassmaster tournaments across Texas, setting the stage for a career spanning 15 years in tournament bass fishing. This early exposure to the sport has shaped his approach to coaching, blending practical skills with life lessons.

A 2016 graduate of Highland Park High School, Stewart founded the school's bass fishing team and served as its President until graduation. His education continued at the University of Arkansas, where he majored in Business Marketing with a minor in Real Estate, Insurance, and Finance.

In the realm of competitive fishing, Stewart boasts five top-10 finishes in Jr. Bassmasters and THSBA tournaments. Under his leadership, the Highland Park Bass Fishing Team clinched first place in their debut tournament at Joe Pool Lake and consistently qualified for the Regional Championship and State Tournament from 2014 to 2016. Stewart also participates in and supports local charity events like the Clayton Dabney - for kids with cancer - Fishin' Tournament every year to help raise money to financially assist families whose children have terminal cancer.

Beyond the waters, Stewart's contributions to the community and his passion for music are equally noteworthy. He played a pivotal role in the Turtle Creek Cleanup Project in 2015, led worship sessions for Highland Park YoungLife, and coordinated music for HPUMC WorshipOnWednesdays. His creation of Sam's Fishing Camp showcases his commitment to passing on his knowledge and teaching young campers about fishing and conservation.

Stewart's hobbies of fishing, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors, alongside his love for music and guitar, mirror his professional endeavors. His diverse background includes roles in business development, sales, estimation, marketing, and entrepreneurship, adding a multifaceted dimension to his coaching philosophy.
